Learning Objectives:
· Understand the definitions of extravasation and infiltration, including their differences. • Recognize the causes and mechanisms behind each condition.
· Learn about the risk factors associated with extravasation and infiltration, including patient-related and procedural factors.
· Identify the clinical signs and symptoms that differentiate extravasation from infiltration.
· Explore strategies for preventing extravasation and infiltration, including proper techniques for venous access and monitoring.
· Understand the steps for managing both extravasation and infiltration, including immediate care and long-term management.
· Recognize the potential complications and implications for patient outcomes associated with different commonly used medications.
· Highlight current issues and risks associated with vesicant administration and extravasations.
Each presentation will award the attendee with 1 contact hour of continuing education. The Association for Vascular Access is an accredited continuing education provider through the California Board of Registered Nurses. Provider #: CEP12371
